School holiday program

About the program

The school holiday program is designed for primary school-aged students to participate with their relatives and friends. Each hands-on activity has been planned in accordance with the K–6 NSW syllabus outcomes so that there is a clear link between the school holiday program and Sydney Metro's FastTracking the Future education program. 

Sydney Metro's free school holiday program 

Sydney Metro's free school holiday program will return in July 2024.

Come join us at Werrington for fun hands-on STEM activities for children aged 8 to 12. Places are limited and bookings are essential. Parents/carers must be in attendance and responsible for their children at all times.  

Fun with robots workshop 

Students work in small groups to explore a series of challenges related to Sydney Metro - Australia’s first fully-automated rail network! This fun workshop for students aged 8 to 12, allows beginners to get a taste of programming by using an educational robot called Dash and an easy drag-and-drop visual coding tool called Blockly.

School holiday activities

Can’t wait until the school holidays? Sydney Metro’s free school holiday activities are now available for you to download.

Our STEM activities allow students to direct their own school holiday program at home. For each activity, there is a step-by-step guide and templates for primary-aged students to try a new skill and learn more about Sydney Metro. We recommend at least two or three hours for each activity.

Stop motion animation

An introduction to stop motion animation involving problem solving and storytelling. Students devise their own story, then create animations using smart devices and animation software to create a film about Sydney Metro.

Minecraft with Sydney Metro

Students use Minecraft to explore mathematical concepts, as well as problem-solving skills to design a virtual 3D station. This activity is suitable for students with access to Minecraft. If you do not have Minecraft on your computer or smart device, parents must provide permission to download as charges may apply.

Bridge building challenge

An opportunity for students to learn more about bridges and get creative. A step-by-step guide to creating your own prototype bridge. Challenge each of your family members to build their own bridges and see which designs are most successful.

Sydney Metro Colouring 

Download printable colouring sheets – suitable for all ages. Colour your own station, tunnel boring machine, safety equipment or railway bridge. Take a photo of your work (high resolution jpg or PDF) and email sydneymetroedu@transport.nsw.gov.au and we’ll post the most colourful submissions on our website.
